Reading Jerome Powell

Issue 11-13-17   |   Reviewer:   Katherine Campbell, Ph.D.

President Trump’s nominee to be chair of the Federal Reserve Board is not an economist. Jerome Powell is, however, wealthy, experienced in banking and private equity, and known as a consensus builder. As a non-economist leading a team of economists, Powell’s personality traits and leadership style may be particularly important.

As Wall Street speculates about what kind of central banker Powell will be, it is unquestioned that the leader of the Fed has significant influence over the U.S. economy.
