The New Smartphone Powerhouse: Huawei

Issue 07-23-12   |   Reviewer:   Duane Helleloid, Ph.D.

Abstract

Whereas RIM (Canada) and Nokia (Finland) used to rule the smartphone market, both are now struggling as Apple (the United States) and Samsung (South Korea) have taken the top two spots. Moving fast up the list is Huawei (China), a maker of communication networking equipment, that has been selling low-priced smartphones worldwide. Rather than developing its own operating system, as have many of its competitors, Huawei has chosen to use Android. Meanwhile, other firms (Motorola, HTC, LG) have also seen their marketshare slip.
